A fortress-crowned headland at the southern tip of Supertubos beach, Consolação delivers a heavy right-hand point wrapping around reef and a sand-bottomed left that wakes up only when the swell climbs. The right fires on NW/W swell from shoulder-high up to triple overhead, with E/NE winds keeping it clean, mid tide pulls the best shape from the point. Both waves demand intermediate-to-advanced ability at normal size, and fully developed skills above 10ft when the sets stack up and the rip drags toward the rocks. Bottom: reef right, sand left. Season: October to March. Consistency: regular. Consolação often stays manageable when Supertubos is maxing out, so expect a focused crowd of surfers who know exactly what they are doing and have little patience for wave-hogging newcomers.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays see the lineup nearly empty, weekends bring a handful of committed locals and travelling surfers displaced from nearby Supertubos. Don't expect warmth in the water. Arrive, sit wide, let a few sets roll through before committing to a wave. Stink-eyes are rare but respect is earned, not assumed. Hassling or snaking will not be tolerated.

Access & Facilities

Beachfront parking sits directly beside the fortress, making access quick and easy. Entries and exits on the right become genuinely sketchy at size: time your paddle-out carefully, watch the rips running toward the rocks, and treat the rocky shoreline with respect. The water is exceptionally clean and regularly awarded for high iodine concentration.

Nearby Alternatives

Supertubos, metres up the beach, is one of Europe's best beach breaks and worth checking if the point is too big or too small. Baleal and Ferrel offer softer options for days when the swell is clean but manageable, and Peniche town has multiple exposed breaks that pick up different swell windows when Consolação goes flat.
