A mellow beachbreak at the south end of Peniche's north bay, Cerro sits right at the city's entry and delivers softer peaks when Supertubos and Baleal are maxed out or maxed with crowds. NW swell with E–NE wind is the sweet spot, pushing consistent a-frame peaks across a sand bottom scattered with rocky patches, remnants of a lobster farm that once operated here. Waist to head-high is the ideal range, mid tide the default, though low tide can produce better-shaped banks when the sand lines up. Beginners and intermediate surfers will feel at home, but expect surf schools and tourists filling the lineup, particularly in summer and on good forecast days. Bottom: sand with rocky patches. Season: October to April. Consistency: reliable year-round. The Quercus Golden Quality certification confirms clean water, but watch for rip currents and submerged rocks, and stay alert for loose boards from learners around you.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The atmosphere is welcoming and family-oriented, but the lineup fills quickly with surf schools, tourists, and beginners on bigger forecast days. Localism is essentially absent, replaced by the hazard of uncontrolled boards and unpredictable learners. Give space, call your wave clearly, and stay aware of who is around you.

Access & Facilities

Roadside parking sits directly adjacent to the beach, making access as straightforward as it gets. Peniche town is minutes away for food, water, and board rentals. The water holds Quercus Golden Quality certification, so quality is not a concern.

Nearby Alternatives

When Cerro goes flat or closes out, Supertubos is a short drive for hollow, powerful barrels suited to advanced surfers. Baleal, just north, offers multiple beach and point options across a wider skill range when the swell angle or bank conditions differ.
