A sheltered crescent of sand just east of Lagos marina, Meia Praia only wakes up in winter swells but can throw out surprisingly fast, hollow lefts and rights when it does. It needs a large NW-to-SW swell to wrap around the headlands and reach the beach, with N to NE winds keeping the faces clean. Mid to high tide produces the best shape on most peaks, though Forecasts rate it workable across all stages. The eastern end of the beach picks up the most energy, and the spot leans beginner-to-intermediate on average days while still rewarding experienced surfers on the better swells. Bottom: sand. Season: December to February. Consistency: low to medium outside winter. The beach runs nearly 5km, so even on busy summer days crowd pressure spreads out, but the righthand end near the marina tends to cluster. Bring a board quiver if you're using Lagos as a base: this spot rewards patience over dedicated sessions.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The vibe is generally welcoming and mellow. The eastern end near the marina gets the most surfers and can cluster on the rare good days. With 5km of beach available, spreading out is easy when conditions allow. Summer draws families and beginners but surf is usually absent, so competitive pressure in the water stays low most of the year.

Access & Facilities

Signposted from Lagos on the marina side of town. Free car parks sit directly on the beach and near the beach bar. On foot it is a 20-minute walk from Lagos town centre over the marina bridge. A beach bar provides food and drink. Camping is available nearby. Water quality is generally clean but can degrade after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

When Meia Praia is flat, Lagos town beach on the western side of the marina can produce hollow beach peaks on SE wind swells. Sagres beaches, about 30km west, offer far more consistency and hold larger swells, with Tonel and Mareta among the more reliable options in the area.
