A city-adjacent reef break with three distinct peaks, Mojon Beach sits within Panama City's urban fringe, trading scenery for convenience. S to SW swells in the 3-8ft range activate the lineup, with Las Piedras and Nuevo Ride working best around high tide while La Lama switches on at low tide. NW offshore winds clean things up, but the swell window is partially blocked by surrounding geography, keeping consistency at medium. Intermediates can get waves here, but they'll be sharing them with a consistently packed lineup and dealing with commercial pollution that earns a genuine caution. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: southern hemisphere swell season, roughly April through October. Consistency: medium. Pack plenty of wax and check pollution levels before paddling out, as water quality fluctuates significantly with urban runoff and nearby commercial activity.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect crowds consistently. As one of the closest surf-accessible spots to Panama City, the lineup draws a regular local crew plus bodyboarders who favor the punchier sections. Respect the rotation, especially at the more defined peaks. Being the new face in a city break lineup requires patience and humility.

Access & Facilities

No dedicated parking and no facilities on site, so come self-sufficient with water and food. Urban access means rideshare or taxi is a viable option. Commercial pollution is a documented concern here, saltwater shoes or booties can help on the reef, and a post-session rinse is strongly advised.

Nearby Alternatives

If Mojon is blown out or the water quality is off, the Boca La Caja breaks nearby offer more punch and are worth checking on the same swell. Further afield, Coronado's Playa Serena and the pointbreaks around San Carlos reward the drive when city swells are inconsistent.
