A wide, consistent beach break on Panama's Azuero Peninsula delivers multiple peaks, a right-hand point, and mid-tide reef sections all within walking distance of each other. SW to NW Pacific groundswell hits the exposed shoreline from around 1ft and holds shape into double-overhead-plus, on bigger days the right-hand point at the far end of the beach comes alive with a sucky, punchy wall best ridden at lower tide. Offshore winds typically blow from the north and northeast during the dry season. The beach break suits intermediates and up on most days, but the reef and point sections reward experience. Beginners can find gentler peaks during smaller, cleaner swells. Bottom: sand with reef and point sections. Season: Dec-Apr dry season peaks, Sep-Nov catches SW pulses. Consistency: high. Arrive early on weekends, though even then crowds are rarely an issue this far from Panama City.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Guanico stays quiet. Weekdays you may surf alone, weekends add a handful of surfers at most. There's a local surf camp on the beach, and the community is welcoming. Respect that vibe, greet people, and take turns at the point when it's working.

Access & Facilities

Paved roads and blue directional signs now make navigation straightforward from Tonosi. A surf camp directly on the beach offers rooms, dorms, and food, so you can skip packing a cooler. Bring reef booties if you plan to walk the left reef section at low tide. No serious rip hazards reported, but read the shore break before paddling out on bigger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

Playa Venao sits roughly 30 minutes north and offers a more developed scene with consistent beach break peaks. Cambutal, 20 minutes south, is a longer, more powerful point and beach combo that comes alive in solid SW swell. If Guanico is maxed out, either of those is an easy call.
