A 4km stretch of beachbreak on Sinaloa's Pacific coast, Playa Bruja sits directly alongside the main road with an easy visual check from the elevated highway. SW to NW swells in the 1-6ft range activate the sandbars, with easterly winds keeping faces clean. The break handles all tides, though the sandbars here tend toward the featureless side, making it a fallback option rather than a destination in itself. Beginners and intermediates will find manageable waves with plenty of room to spread out. Bottom: sand. Season: consistent medium year-round. Consistency: medium. If shape looks flat here, the rivermouth back toward Mazatlán often produces better-defined peaks worth the short detour.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Rarely draws a crowd, partly because better options exist nearby and partly because the sheer length of beach absorbs whoever does show up. No notable localism pressure. Dawn sessions are quiet by default, not because of timing strategy.

Access & Facilities

Pull off Ruta del Spondylus directly at the beach with straightforward roadside parking. No facilities on site, so bring water and food. The elevated road above gives a clean surf check before committing. Paragliders use the hills behind the beach, adding some visual noise to otherwise low-key surroundings.

Nearby Alternatives

When Playa Bruja is flat or shapeless, the rivermouth at Mazatlán to the north typically offers better-defined sandbars and more consistent form. Scan both options from the road before paddling out.
