A steep point-break that only shows its hand on a solid SE swell, Las Flores sits at the northern end of Mazatlán's Zona Dorada, right off the jetty fronting Hotel Las Flores. It needs 5-6ft of SE swell to wake up and handles 10ft+, but swell angle is critical: get it wrong and the wave simply doesn't fire. Offshore winds out of the NW keep it clean, and it works best at low to mid tide. Experienced surfers will find hollow, fast sections with barrel potential when it's glassy, and on a good day rides stretch 150-300m down the point. The beach outside draws a crowd, but when swell hits the lineup stays remarkably empty, often just a handful of surfers even on weekends. Bottom: point. Season: SE swell season, late spring through summer. Consistency: fickle, needs specific swell angle. Watch the rip on steep swells, a long ride lets you walk back up the point rather than paddle against it.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays you may surf alone. Even on weekends the swell-dependent nature of the break keeps the lineup small. The beach at Playa Gaviotas behind you can be busy with tourists, but that energy rarely makes it into the water. Straightforward vibe, no reported localism pressure.

Access & Facilities

Park near Playa Gaviotas in the Zona Dorada or grab a taxi to Hotel Las Flores directly. The hotel sits right on the point and its Las Rejas Bar on the beach is a natural post-session stop. Watch the rip current on bigger, steeper swells near the jetty. Isla Lobos (Deer Island) sits directly offshore and provides a striking backdrop. Food, water, and accommodation are all walking distance.

Nearby Alternatives

When Las Flores isn't firing, Mazatlán's beachbreaks along Playa Olas Altas and Playa Norte pick up more consistent S and SW swell and work in smaller, less directional conditions. If the whole city is maxed out on a big pulse, Las Flores is often the last wave still holding shape.
