A broad, exposed sand beach tucked inside Bahía San Agustín, on the western edge of Parque Nacional Huatulco, just across the road from the international airport. Multiple peaks break along the white-sand shore, picking up south through SSW swell most reliably from April through November. North winds are ideal, glassing off the faces and keeping conditions clean. Size works best from chest-high up to double overhead, though the wave rarely strings together into anything truly impressive. Beginners can find mellow reform sections while intermediates work the better-shaped peaks, the lineup is relaxed, mostly populated by learners and visiting surfers. Bottom: sand. Season: April-November. Consistency: moderate at best, worth checking when a solid south swell is running. The access road is rough and bumpy, so a high-clearance vehicle helps considerably on that last stretch.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is mellow, drawing mainly tourists and beginners rather than territorial locals. Forecasts rate localism at 2/5, welcoming and low-pressure. Crowds are light because the surf is not consistently good enough to draw hardcore surfers on anything but the best swells.

Access & Facilities

Direct from Huatulco airport: cross the road and head toward the national park. The final miles involve a rough, potholed track, high-clearance or 4WD strongly recommended. The bay sits inside a protected national park, so water quality is relatively clean. Basic food and drink vendors operate seasonally on the beach.

Nearby Alternatives

If San Agustín is blown out or too small, the Huatulco bay cluster offers a few other options worth exploring on the same swell. Puerto Escondido to the northwest is the region's benchmark wave and handles the same south swell energy with considerably more power and consistency.
