Arguably the most famous wave in the Maldives, Pasta Point is an exclusive left-hand reef break accessible only to guests of Cinnamon Dhonveli Resort on Thamburudhoo Island, North Malé Atoll. SE swell is the engine here, with NE to N winds keeping it clean, it works from head-high through double-overhead and holds well into bigger surf. The wave runs three distinct sections across roughly 100 yards: a fast, committed takeoff feeds directly into the Macaroni Bowl, a hollow tube section that will test intermediate surfers and reward advanced ones, before mellowing into the Lockjaws inside racetrack on the shallower reef. Access is resort-only, so the lineup is capped at around 30 surf guests, keeping crowds manageable by Maldives standards. Bottom: coral reef. Season: April to October. Consistency: high. Bring a helmet if you're charging the Macaroni Bowl, because the coral at Lockjaws is not forgiving on a wipeout.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The resort-only access model is the crowd control. With a cap near 30 surfing guests, the lineup rarely feels like a battle, though it can get competitive when the wave is pumping and everyone paddles out at once. Locals and staff are reported as welcoming. Dawn patrol sessions tend to be the quietest window.

Access & Facilities

You paddle directly out from Dhonveli Resort, period. There is no other access point, legal or otherwise. The resort provides the infrastructure, outside of that, there are no public facilities at the break. Water quality is clean. The main hazard is the shallow coral at Lockjaws and inside the Macaroni Bowl, where a bad fall can mean a reef rash at minimum.

Nearby Alternatives

When Pasta Point is flat or overcrowded, the same North Malé Atoll has options nearby. Honky's and Sultan's offer right-hand alternatives on Thamburudhoo itself. Lohi's, a short boat ride north, has hosted WQS events and can produce powerful rights in similar swell conditions.
