A swell-magnet reef sitting on the eastern pass of Viligili, Kanda Muli pulls in SE to SW groundswell and dishes up multiple peaks that favour lefts when a northerly wind cleans things up. Optimal size is 2-4ft at mid to high tide, low tide exposes the submerged reef and kills the wave, while big swells make it too straight and unruly to be worth the paddle. Intermediate surfers will find enough variety to keep sessions interesting, though the spot can be finicky and crowd-free given its remote atoll access. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: medium consistency when SE-SW swells track through. Consistency: medium. Come on a small, clean swell with any N component in the wind and you'll have peaky lefts to yourself, but skip it on big days or when sideshore winds chop it up.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Access to Viligili is framed by the Shangri-La resort, which may restrict beach or boat access for non-guests. Arrive by dhoni with a legitimate guesthouse or resort arrangement. The lineup itself is reported solo to uncrowded, but navigating resort territory without local guidance can complicate things.

Access & Facilities

No parking, no facilities on site. Access is boat-only via dhoni from one of the Addu Atoll islands. Bring your own water, wax, and first aid. The reef is submerged coral, so booties are worth considering despite the warm water. Nearest services are back at whichever resort or guesthouse you're staying at.

Nearby Alternatives

If Kanda Muli is too small or winds are wrong, the Milikédé side of the same eastern pass holds additional peaks worth checking. Gan's front-side reef break near the runway offers a right-hand option when conditions align, and on small days the Gaukendi Bridge left and peak are drivable alternatives.
