A short but punchy left breaks off a submerged reef on the south side of Gaukendi Bridge in Addu Atoll, Maldives, offering a rare road-accessible session in a region where most waves require a dhoni ride. SE to SW swells from 2-5ft push through best at mid to high tide, when the reef stays covered enough to surf safely. NE offshore winds groom the surface. This suits intermediates looking for an easy-access alternative when the main Gan reef is maxing out or blown out. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: southern hemisphere winter swell window. Consistency: medium. Avoid the north side of the bridge entirely, where the waves close out and the reef gets uncomfortably shallow at lower tides. A fish or hybrid around 6ft to 6ft 6in suits the short, punchy sections well.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This one runs quiet, with solo or near-empty lineups being the norm. Local surfers do use it, particularly Addu-based residents who know the conditions. Respect the regulars and don't crowd the peak. The easy road access means the odd tourist crew pulls up, but it rarely gets genuinely busy.

Access & Facilities

The bridge is road-accessible on Addu Atoll, one of the very few surf spots in the Maldives you can drive to. No parking infrastructure, no facilities. Bring your own water, wax, and first aid. Reef shoes worth having for entry and exit. Nearest services are back in Hithadhoo or along the Gan causeway.

Nearby Alternatives

The main Gan reef break fires directly in front of the runway and handles more size when Gaukendi Bridge is too small. Off Madihera islet, a quality left wraps the reef pass like a pointbreak and is worth the short boat trip when swells have more south in them.
