Two fun rights tucked inside a bay off Sumbawa's southwestern coastline, Yo-Yos is the go-to when Supersuck and Scar Reef are either firing too hard or sitting dead flat. The Wedge throws a wedgy peak off the cliff with a punchy elevator drop and a short hollow wall, while The Hook breaks along a shallow reef toward the middle of the bay, reeling off a perfectly shaped little right that can get genuinely hollow on the right swell. Both peaks work best on incoming tide with SW groundswell in the waist-high to overhead range, and an NE or E wind keeps things glassy. When SE trades kick in they blow both spots out completely. Boat access is standard for this stretch of coast. Bottom: coral reef. Season: May to August. Consistency: very consistent, 150 days per year. Bring a fish or a shortboard and aim for pre-10am sessions before the boat traffic builds.
Crowd levels fluctuate entirely with how many surf charter boats are anchored in the bay. On a quiet week it can be just a handful of surfers. On a busy week the lineup fills fast. No localism pressure to speak of. Locals are welcoming. Shoulder burn is light, but boat drops can stack the peak unpredictably.
Boat access is the standard approach for most visitors. A short walk of 5-15 minutes is possible, but the majority of surfers arrive by charter. A surf camp with accommodation sits nearby, reportedly offering good food and clean rooms. Roads to the area from Lombok are reported as solid. Renting a car or bike from Bali or Lombok gives flexibility to check Scar Reef and Supersuck on bigger days.
When SW groundswell builds past overhead and Yo-Yos gets too chaotic, Scar Reef and Supersuck are within easy reach and designed for exactly that energy. If everything is flat across the bay, patience is the only real option on this stretch.
