A long reef pass on Sumbawa's south-facing coast, Sejorong picks up more swell than it can handle for much of the year, leaving it best in the off-season when NW winds go offshore and smaller ground or windswells shape up sectiony speed walls to shoulder height. Optimal windows are narrow: you need NW offshores, manageable swell from the S to W quadrant, and the patience to be on a passing boat rather than a dedicated charter stop. The wave runs 200-500m across a submerged reef and suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading fast, unpredictable sections. Crowds are rarely an issue, but access is boat-only with no parking or facilities ashore. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: off-season, when SE trades ease. Consistency: medium. The serious caveat here is pollution: the Batu Hijau copper and gold mine nearby reputedly discharges tailings into local rivers and ocean, so check current conditions before paddling out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Boat access and no onshore infrastructure keep the lineup almost empty. The occasional passing liveaboard may stop here opportunistically, but this is not a dedicated surf stop. Enjoy the solitude, but read the current before paddling.

Access & Facilities

Boat-only access from the West Sumbawa liveaboard circuit. No parking, no facilities, no fresh water or food onshore. The Batu Hijau mine operates in this area, and commercial pollution is a documented concern. Check water quality reports if you're spending extended time in the water.

Nearby Alternatives

When Sejorong is blown out or over-swelled, the reef pass further west reportedly offers cleaner, more consistent walls. Sekongkang Bay to the west hosts Yo Yo's, a slab that fires in bigger swell, and Scar Reef is the headline act in West Sumbawa for advanced surfers chasing barrels.
