Serangan, aka Turtle Island, delivers punchy a-frame reef peaks just south of Sanur, breaking over a coral arc that ranges from soft shoulders to sucky barrels depending on swell size. S to SW swell is the primary driver, with W swell also lighting up the lineup. Offshore winds from the NW keep faces clean, and glassy mornings are the move before the sea breeze fills in. The spot works across all tides and most swell sizes, from waist-high fun all the way through to overhead-plus bowling rights on bigger days. Intermediates will find plenty to work with on the shoulder peaks, while the main right can get hollow and fast on larger swells, pushing into advanced territory. The rainy season (October to April) is forecast services's preferred window, while the structured data points to May through October. Bottom: sharp coral reef. Season: October to April (rainy season priority). Consistency: medium to good year-round. Access is by boat from Serangan port or hired boat from Sanur, as land access has been cut off by development.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Locals are welcoming and the vibe is relaxed by Bali standards. Since land access was closed and boat access became mandatory, crowds have thinned noticeably compared to the old days. Weekends still bring more bodies to the lineup. Respect the locals surfing their home reef and the crowd stays manageable.

Access & Facilities

Boat access only. Launch from the small port on Serangan Island or hire a boat from Sanur, a short trip up the coast. No facilities on site. Bring water, wax, and reef booties if your feet are soft. Sharp coral means reef rash is a real hazard on wipeouts, especially on the shallower sections during lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

Sanur reef sits just to the north and offers mellower conditions on smaller swells. If Serangan is maxed out or blown out, the Bukit Peninsula breaks like Uluwatu and Bingin are an hour south and will handle the same swell with more shelter from W winds.
