A punchy right-hand slab reef sitting roughly 200m south of Keramas on Bali's east coast, Keramas KFC delivers a quick barrel section followed by one or two snappy turns before the wave closes out over shallow reef. It works best on small to medium SE to S swells at mid to high tide, with light NW or W offshores cleaning up the face. The nickname "Fried Chicken" comes from sprinting across scorching black volcanic sand to reach the water, an initiation rite on hot dry-season mornings. Intermediates can enjoy the open wall on smaller days, advanced surfers will push into the barrel on bigger sets. Crowds run noticeably lighter than the neighbouring Keramas main peak. Bottom: reef. Season: April through October. Consistency: moderate. Bring reef booties if your feet are soft, the inside section is painfully shallow on low tide.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Because Keramas main break draws the bulk of the crowd and the surf contest circuit, KFC tends to sit quieter. On clean dry-season mornings it can fill up, but it rarely reaches the intensity of its northern neighbour. Standard respect protocols apply: communicate in the lineup, don't snake sets.

Access & Facilities

Access is via the black-sand beach south of Keramas. The crossing is short but brutal on bare feet under midday sun. Wear sandals to the water's edge. Warungs and basic amenities are available in the Keramas village strip nearby. No formal parking infrastructure, motorbike is the easiest approach.

Nearby Alternatives

If KFC is too small or closing out, Keramas main break 200m north handles more size and offers longer walls. On days when east Bali is flat, Padang Padang and Uluwatu on the Bukit Peninsula are a 45-60 min drive and pick up south swells more reliably.
