One of the longest and most demanding lefts in Bali, Impossibles runs along a shallow lava-and-coral reef just south of Padang Padang on the Uluwatu reef chain. It needs a moderate-to-large S or SW swell to wake up, and SE trade winds keep it groomed and clean through the dry season, April to October. Low to mid tide is when it links properly, three distinct barrel sections separated by connecting walls that demand both speed and commitment. Advanced surfers who can read fast-moving reef lefts will love it, intermediate riders should be honest about their tube-riding ability before paddling out. Bottom: shallow coral reef. Season: April to October. Consistency: medium, needs solid south swell to fire. Entry over the sharp reef at low tide is best done in booties, and be prepared for a long walk back up the beach after a good ride.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends and solid swells draw crowds, but the lineup is generally relaxed by Bali standards. The wave's length and speed naturally spreads surfers across sections, reducing direct competition for sets. Locals know the sections well and will commit to long rides. Give priority in the take-off zone and paddle wide of the channel cluster near the shelf.

Access & Facilities

Parking is on access roads above the break. The paddle-out follows the same channel as Padang Padang. Wear booties for low-tide entry and exit over sharp reef. No facilities at the break directly, but Padang Padang and Bingin both have warungs and board repair within easy walking distance.

Nearby Alternatives

When Impossibles is too fast or closed out, Padang Padang just up the reef offers a shorter, more critical barrel for the same swell. Uluwatu handles a wider range of conditions and sizes and is worth checking if south swell is too small to link the sections here.
