A long, spinning righthander peeling along a wide stretch of reef south of Sanur, Hyatt Reef sits well out to sea and requires a solid S, SW, or W swell to show its best face. Mid to high tide is essential given the ultra-shallow, ultra-sharp reef beneath, and early morning glass or a W to NW offshore is the only real window before the sea breeze ruins it. On the right day with swell in the chest-high to overhead range, two distinct sections emerge: an outside peak that throws square, heavy barrels with little warning, and a more forgiving inside section that walls up for turns before funneling into a bowling barrel. The paddle out is a genuine commitment, especially when overhead, so pack energy and pick your window. Bottom: ultra-sharp, ultra-shallow reef. Season: October to April. Consistency: moderate, size and wind dependent. Bring your thickest leash and expect a long paddle back if you get caught inside.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup pressure is generally low given the effort required to get out there. The vibe is welcoming, but humility and respect in the water are appreciated, as they are at any reef break in Bali. The paddle-out commitment naturally filters the crowd.

Access & Facilities

Park on the road in front of the beach south of Sanur and paddle out. The distance is significant, especially in bigger swell, so assess conditions before committing. Water quality is mostly clean. No facilities directly at the break.

Nearby Alternatives

If Hyatt Reef is too small, too windy, or simply not firing, the Sanur stretch offers a handful of mellower reef options closer to shore. Nusa Dua's consistent beach and reef setups are also within range when the swell angle favors them over the open-ocean exposure here.
