Short, punchy and shallow, Bingin is a left-hand reef barrel tucked beneath the Bukit Peninsula cliffs that delivers one of Bali's most consistently hollow waves in a very compact package. It fires on S to SW swell, ideally 3-6ft, with SE trade winds keeping it clean offshore. Mid to dropping tide is the sweet spot, low-tide springs exposes the shallow lava reef and turns the already tight take-off zone into a genuine hazard. The wave suits intermediate to advanced surfers who are comfortable in dense, competitive lineups over sharp coral. Bottom: shallow lava reef. Season: April through October dry season. Consistency: high. Arrive at dawn on a weekday if you want anything approaching a fair rotation, because by mid-morning the lineup is routinely 25-plus surfers fighting over a peak the size of half a tennis court.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism here is real and the take-off zone is brutally tight. Dialed-in locals control priority on the better sets. Patience and respect are non-negotiable. Pushing your way into the rotation will not end well. The warungs above the beach offer a friendly enough atmosphere on land, but that does not transfer to the water. Weekends and mid-swell days are especially stacked.

Access & Facilities

Access is via the road from Pecatu on the Bukit. A steep walk down the cliff brings you to the beach. Parking is limited up top. Several warungs line the clifftop and provide food, drinks, and shade. The reef itself has areas of exposed coral, so board shorts are the minimum and reef booties are worth considering if you are not confident of staying on your board.

Nearby Alternatives

If Bingin is too crowded or too small, Dreamland and Balangan are a short drive away and can offer more accessible peaks on similar swells. When Bingin is working properly, Padang Padang and Uluwatu are also firing and may have more room to move depending on swell size and tide.
