A fast, hollow right peeling off a submerged reef on Bali's exposed south coast, Green Ball rewards surfers willing to earn it. Optimal conditions call for S to W swell from 3-8ft, NW to W offshore winds, and a mid-tide window that keeps the reef honest. The trade-wind season (Apr-Oct) delivers the most consistent runs, but the morning glass window is short before the SE trades kill it. Intermediate-plus surfers comfortable in strong currents will find a punchy, rewarding right, the rip that whips seaward at unpredictable angles is the real gatekeeper here. Bottom: shallow reef. Season: Apr-Oct. Consistency: high. Pack a leg leash you trust and watch your position constantly because sets will catch you off guard in the current.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The vibe in the lineup is welcoming, but the approach filters out casual surfers naturally. Weekend crowds are relatively thin given the access. Morning sessions fill fastest during the peak dry season months when swell is consistent, so arrive early or accept company. Current disrupts pack dynamics anyway, keeping things spread.

Access & Facilities

Park at the clifftop lot near the Bali Cliff Hotel area and descend a long, steep cliff path. The walk down is manageable, the walk back up after a full session in heavy current will burn your legs for days. No facilities at the beach. Monkeys are active around the carpark and have a habit of interfering with unattended bags. Water quality is generally clean but stormwater runoff affects it after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

If Green Ball is blown out or the rip is unmanageable, Nyang Nyang picks up similar swell on the same stretch of coast. Uluwatu and Padang Padang are accessible further north and offer more shelter from the SE trades in the afternoon.
