A powerful deep-water left off the SW tip of Ceningan Island, this reef break delivers long walling sections with a steep pocket and predictable shape when the swell cooperates. SW to S swells from 3-10ft, E trade winds offshore, and it works across all tides though low to mid is the local preference. Intermediate to advanced surfers only: the wave erupts out of genuinely deep water, runs strong current toward the point, and jumps quickly from fun to sketchy as size builds. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: April through October. Consistency: medium. Bring a solid leash because if it snaps, your board is gone. Locals have flagged sharks as a real concern here, and boat operators will sometimes refuse to take surfers out if activity is elevated. Watch the metal seaweed farming stakes at the end of the ride on your way in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Only sometimes crowded, with few surfers on weekends. The boat-access requirement and the shark reputation act as natural filters. This is not a wave to blunder into: assess the current, check shark conditions with your boat captain before paddling out, and respect anyone already in the water.

Access & Facilities

Boat from Benoa Harbour to Nusa Lembongan, then a shorter run across to Ceningan. Alternatively, ride a motorbike from Lembongan over the suspension footbridge onto Nusa Penida and approach overland. No parking, no facilities on site. The cliff face is cave-pocked and has some routes down, but boat access is cleaner and safer. Take water.

Nearby Alternatives

When Ceningan is too big or sharky, Lembongan's Shipwrecks offers a more forgiving entry point. Playgrounds on the same island handles smaller swells better and has more consistent form for intermediate surfers.
