A long, zippy left-hand rivermouth that peels for up to 300m when the swell lines up, Sigatoka sits on the southwest coast of Viti Levu roughly an hour south of Nadi. S to W swells from 3ft to 10ft keep it honest, with northerly offshores grooming the face cleanly. Mid to larger swells push the wave back onto a sandbar at the river entrance and the left wall unzips all the way across the mouth, while smaller days offer playful beach peaks along the dune-backed shore. Intermediate surfers get the most out of it, but competent beginners can manage the smaller days and experienced chargers will find real challenge at size. The estuary water runs murky after rain and sharks are present in the river system. Bottom: sand and rivermouth. Season: southern hemisphere autumn through winter. Consistency: high. Dawn patrol the beach peaks before the wind turns onshore and ruins the surface.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup sits well outside the main tourist circuit and crowds are rare even on weekends. Locals are generally friendly. Respect the village land access, pay what is asked, and leave nothing on the beach. The Sand Dunes National Park is culturally significant to Fijians.

Access & Facilities

Head south from Nadi on the Queen's Road toward Suva. Pass the Sand Dunes National Park visitor centre and look for the turn just after the railway bridge. A dirt track leads toward the coast. Expect a walk of roughly 1.5km to reach the beach. No formal parking, no facilities at the break itself. Budget accommodation is available in the area. Bring your own water, food, and sunscreen.

Nearby Alternatives

When Sigatoka is too small, the Sand Dunes beachbreak to the north picks up similar swell and provides A-frame peaks across several kilometres. For a step up in quality on bigger south swells, Tavarua and Namotu resort islands to the northwest host Restaurants, Swimming Pools, and Namotu Lefts, though access requires resort arrangements or day passes.
