A jetty-shaped right-hander on São Paulo's coast, Praia dos Pescadores breaks off a bent "molhe" that angles NW, producing slower, more tapered walls than its neighbour Espinho to the north. SW to NW swell windows feed the break best, with westerly winds going offshore and low to mid tide giving the most shape to the shoulder. The rights can hold a decent wall and taper into the channel beside the jetty, making it workable for intermediates looking for something less punishing than the nearby jetty breaks. Down the beach throws up faster corners, but these sections close out frequently, and a pronounced sand trough directly off the beach face adds a hazard worth knowing. Consistency is high by regional standards, sizing up through 2 to 10ft. Water quality is a real concern: a stream drains into the lineup and carries polluted run-off after rain, so check conditions before paddling out. Bottom: sand with jetty influence. Season: year-round with autumn and winter peaks. Consistency: high. Avoid the water for 48 hours after heavy rainfall upriver.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Less crowded than Espinho, which makes it a viable alternative when that lineup is stacked. Beginners can find shelter in the lee of the jetty on smaller days, though the main peak is better suited to intermediates. No significant localism reported, but expect more company during school holidays and on clean autumn swells.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available near the beach and there are restrooms on site. The jetty provides a relatively straightforward entry point. Keep the estuary pollution issue front of mind: this is a real health risk after rainfall, not just a minor inconvenience.

Nearby Alternatives

Espinho to the north is faster, hollower, and more powerful off its SW-pointing jetty when conditions align. South of here, a series of jetty-divided beaches offers similar sandbar setups with varying quality, worth checking on the same swell window.
