Rock-anchored lefts peel along the northern fringe of Guaruá Island when a solid E-to-S swell pushes through, with waves spinning off the rocks and walling up across a mixed rock-and-sand bottom. Needs a minimum 2.5-3m (8-10ft) face to get going, but holds well past 4m (12ft) when the groundswell is running. Offshore winds blow from the NW, and it works across all tides. Best suited to intermediates comfortable reading a point-style left on size, the lineup pulls a crowd on weekends, often reaching ultra-crowded conditions when the swell is on. Bottom: mixed rock and sand. Season: year-round, with best consistency when E-SSE groundswells arrive. Consistency: high when minimum threshold is met. Access is complicated by resort-restricted roads through the northern beaches, so check conditions before committing to the drive.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The northern Guaruá zone gets busy year-round, and São Pedro in particular draws heavy weekend crowds when the swell window aligns. On an ultra-crowded weekend the lineup is competitive. If you're visiting, weekday dawn patrols are the practical move. The spot's awkward access naturally filters some crowd on flat-swell days.

Access & Facilities

Resort developments along the northern beaches restrict road access, you may need to navigate gated sections or find alternative entry. No dedicated facilities on-site. Restricted parking. Check road access before the trip. Residential runoff means water quality can dip after heavy rain, so avoid post-storm sessions.

Nearby Alternatives

When São Pedro is not working or the wind has gone S, Pinheiro and Iporanga offer alternatives that favour more E in the swell. For pure beachbreak quality, Maresias to the south is widely considered the standout in the Sao Paulo region on a SE-S groundswell.
