A beach-break sandwiched between Enseada and Praia Grande in Ubatuba, Toninhas runs three distinct peaks that come alive on E swell or a heavy S push. Optimal conditions sit between 1.5m and 2m-plus, with smaller E swells unlocking playful peaks along the north corner while bigger surf pushes a long right at Muro Branco and a workable left off the rock divider toward Praia Grande. Intermediate surfers get the most out of it, though beginners can paddle out when it's small and clean. Weekdays are quiet to empty, weekends bring Ubatuba crowds. Bottom: sand over mixed rock edges. Season: E swell windows, year-round but inconsistent. Consistency: fickle, dependent on less-frequent E swell tracking. The rock shelf dividing Toninhas from Praia Grande is the main hazard worth noting before you paddle into the north corner.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays the lineup is largely empty. On weekends and holidays the São Paulo crowd arrives and the peaks fill quickly. Localism is not reported as heavy, but standard lineup respect applies, especially in the tighter north-corner section near the rocks.

Access & Facilities

Toninhas sits directly off the BR-101 Rio-Santos highway, making it one of the easier accesses on the Ubatuba coast. Ubatuba town has water, food, and board rentals. Watch the exposed rocks along the northern divider at lower tides, a stray set can push you into the shelf.

Nearby Alternatives

Praia Grande next door shares a similar setup and often picks up the same swell, worth checking if Toninhas is maxed or blown out. Enseada to the south offers more protected conditions on big S swell days.
