A long point-break wall that peels with speed and punch on E-SE swell, Porta do Sol sits on the São Paulo coastline and rewards surfers willing to handle serious current. It needs at least 3ft to show its teeth, and at proper size (6-10ft) it delivers rides stretching 150-300m with fast, powerful sections that demand commitment. Tide matters hard here: low to mid is when the wave organises best, and checking the tide table before paddling out is non-negotiable. The paddle-out is substantial and the current is relentless, making this unsuitable for anyone still building their ocean reading skills. Bottom: point. Season: year-round when E-SE groundswell arrives. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Strong currents can pull you off the point quickly, so plan your exit before you paddle out, and carry enough fitness for a long battle back to the channel.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is consistently crowded both on weekdays and weekends. With limited peak real estate on a point break, priority disputes are common. Respect the rotation, don't snake sets, and pay attention to where you sit in the pecking order. Dawn patrol is your best bet for a slightly less competitive session.

Access & Facilities

The spot is relatively straightforward to locate. Be prepared for a solid paddle and aggressive current on entry and exit. Beginners should stay out of the water here: the current is a genuine hazard and has caught out unprepared surfers. Check tide charts before arriving.

Nearby Alternatives

The São Paulo coast offers a range of beach breaks within driving distance for days when Porta do Sol's current is unmanageable or the swell angle is off. Nearby peaks provide shorter, more forgiving rides when the point isn't firing.
