A dependable beach break on Santa Catarina's coast, Ravena produces rights and lefts off quality sandbars that fire from waist-high up to 12-15ft faces on the biggest swells. S swell is the primary driver, though NE and E swells also deliver rideable surf. SW to NW winds keep the faces clean, and medium tide is the sweet spot for most conditions. Beginners can work the smaller days, but the lineup shifts toward serious, competitive surfers as size builds, and the paddle-out becomes a genuine test when things get overhead-plus. Bottom: sand. Season: fall and winter peak, with year-round activity. Consistency: moderate. Currents, a nearby jetty, and localism are the main hazards, so read the water before paddling out and be aware that some locals take priority seriously. Water quality runs fairly clean most of the time.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup sees moderate crowds that are competitive in character. Some local chargers have a strong presence and take the bigger days seriously. As swell builds, the crowd thins naturally, which opens up more room for those willing to paddle for size. Respect the pecking order, don't snake sets, and things tend to stay manageable.

Access & Facilities

Easy to locate from the main coastal road through Santa Catarina. No technical access required. The jetty is a real hazard in larger surf, so stay aware of your position relative to it, especially when currents are running. Pollution can be a factor after heavy rain despite generally clean baseline water quality.

Nearby Alternatives

Santa Catarina's coastline has multiple beach breaks within short driving distance that pick up similar S and E swells if Ravena's banks are uncooperative. Spots to the north and south along the same stretch can offer cleaner sandbars on different tides, making it worth a short scout before committing.
