A fast, punchy beach break about 130km south of Florianópolis, Laguna delivers short, spirited peaks that punch above their weight for a regional town wave. It picks up swell from less than 1ft and holds shape into the 6ft-plus range, making it one of the more consistent options on the Santa Catarina coast outside the island. Offshore winds and any southern or SE swell push the banks into proper form. Weekdays the lineup stays quiet enough to work the peaks freely, but summer weekends draw heavy crowds and water quality takes a hit from increased town activity. Bottom: sand. Season: works year-round, best consistency in autumn and winter. Consistency: moderate to high. Bring a mid-length or fish on smaller days when the banks are gutless, and save the shortboard for clean 3-to-5ft days when sections throw quickly.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays the water is quiet. Summer weekends flip the script and the beach gets genuinely crowded. Local surfers are protective of the lineup, a standard reality for a town break with a loyal crew. Come in with a relaxed attitude, wait your turn, and there is no issue. Heavy summer nights in town mean tired, amped crowds the next morning.

Access & Facilities

Laguna is easy to reach off the main BR-101 highway heading south from Florianópolis. Parking directly in front of the beach is straightforward. Town infrastructure means food, water, and accommodation are close. Water quality degrades noticeably in peak summer due to tourist volume, so check conditions before paddling out after heavy rain or holiday periods.

Nearby Alternatives

The broader Santa Catarina coast has several beach break options within an hour's drive if Laguna's banks are blown out or too crowded. The region around Garopaba to the north offers similar swell exposure with a slightly different angle that can catch swells Laguna misses.
