A fickle but rewarding beach break on the south Santa Catarina coast, Gamboa sits roughly 15 minutes from Garopaba and only comes alive when the right swell and wind line up. It needs a solid SE or S swell to wake up, works across a wide size range from under 1ft to 6ft-plus, and rewards patience with punchy, fun peaks when the conditions converge. The crowd is light on weekdays and thin even on weekends, making it a worthwhile hunt for surfers willing to read the window. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter swells are most reliable. Consistency: low to moderate, highly swell-dependent. Get out early on the rare days it's firing, because the size and shape can change quickly as the swell angle shifts through the morning. Intermediate surfers will find the most fun here, though beginners can manage on smaller days and experienced riders can push it when size builds.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the quieter stretches on the Santa Catarina coast. Weekday sessions can feel virtually empty, and weekends rarely draw more than a handful of surfers. Localism is not reported as an issue. Still, respect the lineup and be patient given how seldom the spot delivers.

Access & Facilities

Gamboa is accessed via the Siriú road, approximately 15 minutes south of Garopaba. The route passes through small villages where locals can point you in the right direction if you're unsure. Facilities are minimal, so bring water and food. Garopaba has surf shops and accommodation if you're making a trip of it.

Nearby Alternatives

If Gamboa isn't breaking, Garopaba town beach handles a wider swell window and offers more consistent surf at similar sizes. Praia do Ferrugem, just north, is a more exposed beach that tends to pick up swell more reliably and is worth checking on days when south swells are marginal.
