One of the most consistent big-wave beaches in Brazil, Praia da Vila sits on the Santa Catarina coast with a rocky headland backdrop that appears in more than a few charging sequences. Two small offshore islands shape the sandbars into distinct zones: a long left off the north island in summer running 3 to 6ft-plus, rights and lefts on the hard sand bars between the islands from 2 to 8ft, and a Sunset-style outside peak that only reveals itself when heavy winter swells push in from the S. Unlike most sand-bottom beaches in this region that close out when surf climbs above head-high, Praia da Vila holds shape into double-overhead and beyond, making it the standout big-wave option among Santa Catarina's beach breaks. S swell is the priority. E also works. N to NE winds keep it clean. Mid tide is optimal. Crowd is moderate at smaller sizes but thins as the swell builds. Bottom: sand. Season: fall and winter peak, but it breaks year-round. Consistency: above average for big surf. Bring a gun if the forecast shows a XXL south swell.

Expect a competitive, serious lineup. The local charger crew is tight and capable. Moderate crowds at everyday size, but the bigger the surf, the more the crowd self-selects. Respect is earned in the water here, not assumed. Visitors who can actually surf in big waves will find the vibe manageable.

Access & Facilities

Easy to find from Imbituba town. Water quality is generally fair but can degrade after heavy rain when sewage and stormwater drainage mix. Shoulder burn is real: the paddle back after a set is exhausting. Budget physical energy accordingly on big days.
