A sand-bottom break at the south end of Florianópolis island, Morro das Pedras delivers its best surf when S swell wraps around the headland and builds into fast, hollow right-handers that can run almost point-like on good days. S to SE groundswell in the 3-8ft range is the sweet spot, with W to NW offshore wind cleaning things up. Medium tide tends to favor the banks, though the wave handles all tides reasonably well. The south-end right is the main draw, but multiple peaks spread up the beach, keeping the crowd from stacking on a single spot. Intermediates will find plenty to work with when it's under head-high, advanced surfers will want the hollow sections that open up on bigger S pulses. Bottom: sand. Season: fall and winter (March to August). Consistency: medium. Watch for hard closeouts as waves approach the beach on bigger S swells, which can punish a late exit.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends bring serious pressure. Florianópolis is a surf-hungry city and Morro das Pedras is one of its more accessible breaks, meaning the south-end right packs out fast when it's on. Weekday dawn patrol is the obvious answer. The spread of peaks across the beach helps dilute the crowd on average days, and localism is manageable but present.

Access & Facilities

Drive south from Campeche along the coast road to reach the beach. A car park is available on-site. A surf school operates here, and basic facilities are nearby. Water quality is generally clean. The paddle is straightforward on smaller days but lengthens with size.

Nearby Alternatives

Campeche beach, just north, holds a classic long hollow right on major S swell when the banks align. Joaquina, further north, is the most consistent beachbreak on the island and handles almost any swell direction. Lagoinha do Leste to the south rewards the effort of a long hike with powerful, less crowded surf.
