Florianópolis's longest beach delivers punchy, shifting peaks across 13km of exposed coastline on Santa Catarina Island's northeast shore. E and S swells are the engine here, best from waist-high to a couple feet overhead, with NW winds keeping faces clean. Low to mid tide tends to organize the sand best, though the break functions at all tides. All skill levels can find something, and the sheer length of the beach keeps the crowd spread thin even on busy weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: fall and winter peak, but breaks year-round. Consistency: reliable when swell windows align. No channel exists on bigger days, so use a rip to paddle out or expect a serious battle through the shore break.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The 13km length is the crowd-solving feature here. Even on weekends, surfers spread out naturally and you can often find a peak to yourself. Locals are welcoming. School days and early mornings are the least pressured windows. Argentine tourists fill the beach in summer months but generally stay out of the lineup.

Access & Facilities

Drive the east shore road north past Mole, Joaquina, Galheta, and Barra da Lagoa. Multiple pull-offs along the highway let you check conditions before committing. Facilities are minimal along much of the beach, so bring water. The remoteness is part of the appeal, but it also means a medical situation far from help is a real risk on big days.

Nearby Alternatives

When Mocambique is too big or onshore, Barra da Lagoa and Praia Mole to the south offer more sheltered options. Joaquina is a step up in crowd and intensity but rewards when the swell is pumping.
