A powerful, remote beach break on the southern tip of Florianópolis island, Lagoinha do Leste earns its consistency by catching almost every swell direction that swings through Santa Catarina. SW and S swells are the primary drivers, with SE also producing rideable peaks across the beach. Works at all tides, though mid tide tends to clean up the shape. Size range is wide: it starts moving below 1ft and holds form up to around 8ft before sections start closing out above 2.5m. Weekdays the lineup is effectively empty, weekends draw a small local crew. Bottom: beach sand. Season: year-round, most consistent in autumn and winter. Consistency: high for the island. Bring enough water and food for the day since there are no facilities at the beach.
Weekdays the walk filters almost everyone out and you can expect the lineup to yourself or near to it. Weekends a handful of locals make the hike. No reported localism pressure, but the isolation cuts both ways. Be aware there have been reports of theft and drug activity in the northern section of the beach. Stay in the southern end and preferably do not surf solo.
Drive to Pantano do Sul on the southern tip of the island and park there. From the beach, a 45-minute trail leads over the headland to Lagoinha do Leste. The walk is straightforward and locals in Pantano can point you in the right direction. Zero facilities at the beach itself: no food, no water, no rentals. Pack everything in. Leave valuables locked in your car rather than the beach.
Pantano do Sul itself has a mellower beach break for smaller days. Joaquina, on the east side of the island, is the go-to when south swells are too big and closing out Lagoinha, offering a longer, more organised beach break lineup.
