A versatile beach break on Santa Catarina's south coast, Itapiruba delivers accessible fun on small days and genuinely long rides when bigger SW swells push through. Located roughly 20 km north of Laguna off BR-101, the break offers beach peaks across a wide size range, from knee-high learner conditions up through 6-8ft sets when the magic left near the rocks switches on. That left is the highlight: a long, walling ride that stands out among the generally punchy Santa Catarina beach-break inventory. Rights peel toward the channel and offer their own quality section when swell direction aligns. It suits all skill levels across different conditions, with calm small-day surf ideal for beginners and solid overhead sets that give intermediates a proper workout. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter swells (Mar-Aug) tend to be most consistent. Consistency: moderate to good. Weekdays bring a quiet lineup, weekends draw heavy local crowds, so early sessions are worth the alarm clock.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday sessions are uncrowded and relaxed. On weekends the beach turns chaotic fast, especially when the swell is up. Localism is not reported as heavy, but a crowded sand-bank lineup always has its share of drop-in pressure. Show up at dawn on Saturday or Sunday to get the better sets without the circus.

Access & Facilities

Turn off BR-101 about 20 km before Laguna heading south. The beach is straightforward to find and roadside parking is available directly at the sand. No complex trail or paddle required. Laguna is close enough for supplies, food, and board rentals if needed.

Nearby Alternatives

Laguna itself has a handful of town breaks worth checking when Itapiruba is maxed out or mobbed. Further north along SC's coast, spots toward Garopaba offer reef and point options that come alive on the same SW groundswells.
