A sand-bottom right-hander on Florianópolis's south coast that local surfers genuinely compare to Jeffreys Bay, Campeche Rights produces some of the longest, most consistently barreling walls in southern Brazil. It needs SW to S swell at 3ft-plus with offshore NW winds, and mid-to-high tide fills in the shallower sections, though it handles all tides competently. On a good day the wave runs 300-500m, stacking multiple barrel sections on a single ride. Experienced surfers will thrive here, intermediates should read the lineup carefully before paddling out. The crowd swells dramatically on weekends when all of Floripa shows up, but weekdays can stay surprisingly quiet. Bottom: sandbar. Season: autumn through winter peaks March to August. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bring a step-up for anything over 6ft and arrive at dawn on weekend swells to secure a reasonable position before the pack lands.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays see a small, capable crew. Weekends during a solid swell bring the entire Florianópolis surf community to this peak, and the vibe tightens accordingly. Locals have priority and they enforce it, as the community reports make plain. Drop-ins here carry real social consequences. Respect the rotation, sit wide until you read the pecking order, and earn your waves.

Access & Facilities

Campeche beach sits on the southern end of Ilha de Santa Catarina. Head south from central Floripa and follow signs toward Campeche. Street parking is available near the main beach access. Basic food and water are available in the surrounding neighborhood. The beach itself is open, so the sandbar peak is easy to spot from shore before committing to the paddle-out.

Nearby Alternatives

When Campeche is maxed out or too crowded, Joaquina to the north handles bigger S swells and offers both rights and lefts off a sand-bottom beach. Mole also picks up similar swell and gives more room in the lineup on peak weekend days.
