A jetty-anchored beach break on Pawley's Island that lights up when late-summer and early-fall hurricane swells push S and SE energy into the sand bars on both sides of the structure. Rights and lefts peel off the jetty depending on swell angle, with the best shape coming in at mid to high tide on waist-to-overhead surf. W and NW winds clean it up, hard NE and SW winds can drive strong currents and make the paddle-out work. The lineup suits a wide range of surfers, from longboarders walking the nose on smaller days to shortboarders hunting the punchier sections during named storms. Bottom: Sand. Season: Late summer, early fall, early spring. Consistency: Moderate, swell-dependent. Watch for miscellaneous sea creatures and exposed rocks near the jetty base, and expect some runoff pollution in the water after heavy rain events.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Moderate crowds on good days, especially during hurricane season when word gets out fast. The local vibe is welcoming by South Carolina standards, but be polite, read the lineup, and don't snake. Dawn patrol in late summer is the cleanest bet before the beach fills up.

Access & Facilities

A small public parking area sits just off the Pawley's Island beach road where it bends toward the water. Access is straightforward with no long walk-ins. Bring your own water and sunscreen. Some food and amenities are available nearby on the island. Post-storm water quality can drop, so check conditions after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

If South Jetty is blown out or flat, the broader Pawley's Island beachbreaks to the north can offer different sand bar setups on the same swell. Litchfield Beach and Huntington Beach State Park are short drives and can pick up similar S-SE energy with varied crowd levels.
