Fripp Island

Fripp Island delivers mellow beachbreak peaks just south of Hunting Island, sitting at the end of a long drive on Highway 21 out of Beaufort, SC. S and SE swells are the primary engine here, with W and NW winds cleaning things up. Mid to high tide produces the better shape, and the wave in front of the main clubhouse is the standout section on a consistent day. Size range is waist to overhead, and the relaxed atmosphere means the lineup is rarely competitive, making it a solid option for surfers across most skill levels. Bottom: sand. Season: late summer, early fall, early spring. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Watch for sea creatures in the shallows and be aware that strong NE or SW winds can generate surprisingly rippable currents along this exposed stretch of coastline.
