A jetty-influenced beach break producing punchy rights and lefts along the northern end of Brigantine Island, about 20 minutes from Atlantic City. The best waves run from the inlet jetty northward four blocks, where shifting peaks wedge up outside before walling down the beach and often finishing in a fast, hollow inside section. It works on ENE through SE swell with WNW to NW wind, mid to high incoming tide. Chest-high to just overhead is the sweet spot, once it pushes past six feet the wave loses its shape, so cross the bridge to Atlantic City when size builds beyond that threshold. Intermediate surfers can find fun sections most days, while the hollow inside draws experienced riders who can handle quick closeouts. Crowds stay moderate through fall and winter but stack up on summer weekends. Bottom: sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: reliable when storm swell tracks up the Mid-Atlantic coast. Arrive at dawn on weekend swells to beat the pack and catch the cleaner incoming tide window before the crowd fills in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Locals can get territorial on good days but the vibe stays mostly manageable. Summer weekends are the most competitive and not the ideal time for visitors to paddle out on limited New Jersey experience. Fall and winter sessions thin the crowd significantly and coincide with the best swell windows.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available with a 10 to 15 minute walk to the break. Four-wheel drive access by permit only is an alternative. Rocks and rip currents near the jetty are the main physical hazards. Water quality is generally clean except after heavy rainfall. Atlantic City amenities are a short bridge crossing away.

Nearby Alternatives

When Brigantine Jetty maxes out or crowds pile up, the beaches along Atlantic City pick up similar swell with slightly different exposure. Seaside Park and the breaks around Barnegat Inlet to the north are worth checking when a stronger NE swell is running.
