Belmar's 16th Ave. Punches above its reputation while Manasquan draws the crowds further south, and on a solid SE swell this stretch of Jersey Shore sand can throw genuinely hollow barrels. Best on S, SSE, or SE swells in the waist-high to well-overhead range, with W winds cleaning things up and low-to-mid tide sharpening the shape. The beach directly across from Eastern Lines Surf Shop is the designated surfer's beach in Belmar, attracting a cross-section from learners to experienced shortboarders depending on what the ocean is doing. Summer brings beach badges, parking-lot convenience, and a packed lineup that mirrors the boardwalk crowds. Bottom: sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: reliable on regional swells, fickle in flat summer windows. Skip summer mornings unless you enjoy jostling for every set wave. September through March gives you the best shape with a fraction of the bodies in the water.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Moderate crowds year-round, heavier in summer when parking is abundant and the whole Jersey Shore population seems to paddle out at once. Beach badges are required in summer, which adds a small logistical friction. The vibe is mellow to moderate on average days but can tighten up quickly on good summer and fall swells. Respect the lineup rotation and give ground to locals on the better peaks.

Access & Facilities

Easy beach access with ample street and lot parking nearby. Eastern Lines Surf Shop is directly across from the break for board rentals, wax, and local intel. Beach badges required during summer months. Watch for groins along the beach, which can create rips and awkward currents, especially on bigger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

When 16th Ave. Is too crowded or the banks are blown out, Manasquan Inlet to the south is the region's most consistent and talked-about option, particularly for powerful rights. The Belmar Pier at the south end of town takes NE swells nicely and can deliver quality sessions when conditions align.
