Ocean City's 7th Street is a jetty-assisted beach break on the New Jersey Shore that punches well above its modest appearance, especially from September through March. ENE, E, ESE, and SE swells are the bread and butter here, with a NW wind cleaning things up nicely. Mid-to-high tide generally produces the best shape, and the wave earns its reputation at head-high to double-overhead, where sets jack hard off the 7th Street jetty, throw out farther than they are high, then wall up and peel down the beach with genuine purpose. That steep drop and sweeping current tend to self-regulate the crowd on bigger days, which is one of the few upsides of a wave that can genuinely challenge all skill levels. Bottom: sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: moderate, beach replenishment has reshaped the profile in recent years, so sandbars shift. Three outfall pipes extend into the lineup and have cost more than a few surfers their fins and their dignity on larger swells.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are quiet. Summer weekends bring moderate-to-heavy crowds with hundreds of waveriders sharing the peak. Autumn through early spring the lineup thins out considerably. Local vibe is generally chill, bigger days tend to reward surfers who can commit to the drop and handle the current, which does its own crowd filtering. Respect the lineup and you will be fine.

Access & Facilities

Ocean City is easy to reach off the Garden State Parkway. Summer access is the toughest due to parking restrictions and beach tags. The boardwalk sits right behind the break. Water quality is generally clean, but three outfall pipes extend well into the lineup. Know where they are before paddling out, especially on bigger swells. Fins and rails pay the price when you clip one.

Nearby Alternatives

When 7th Street is blown out or the sandbars are flat, the jetty breaks farther north along the Jersey Shore offer more reliable structure. Belmar and the Manasquan Inlet area are within reasonable driving distance and tend to hold shape on similar ENE through SE swell windows.
