Fast, hollow beach-break peaks at the north end of Ocean City, New Jersey, where a tight-knit local crew has claimed the sandbar for decades. Best in a NE to SE groundswell, 3-6ft, at any tide, though mid-tide tends to clean up the sections and add a bit more wall before they close out. Offshore winds are W to NW, which is standard for the Jersey Shore on a high-pressure morning. Experienced surfers will feel at home here, beginners will find the vibe and pace of the lineup a rude introduction. Bottom: sand. Season: fall and winter produce the best swell, but summer mornings before 10am can be worth it when a hurricane is in the Atlantic. Consistency: reliable for the region when groundswell fills in. Note that the beach is lifeguarded 10am to 5pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so dawn patrol is your only legal window during that stretch if the waves are firing.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism here is real. The local crew is skilled, tight, and not subtle about priority. Respect the hierarchy, be happy with whatever comes to you, and do not paddle around people to get to the peak. Weekends are ultra-crowded. If you're not known here, keep your head down, surf clean, and do not snake. The lineup notices everything.

Access & Facilities

Drive into Ocean City and head north. Parking near the north end is limited and fills fast on any decent swell day, especially weekends. Walk to the beach and read the sandbar before paddling out. During summer, the beach is closed to surfing 10am-5pm. No surf rentals at this end, grab supplies in town before heading out. Watch for swimmers during crowded summer mornings at dawn patrol.

Nearby Alternatives

If 35th St. Is too packed or the sandbar is not cooperating, the beaches stretching south through Ocean City offer similar beach-break setups with rotating peaks and varying crowd levels. On bigger swells, the inlets at the north and south ends of OC can offer more defined shape.
