A low-key New Jersey beach break delivering fun rights and lefts on medium swell, running along a preserved stretch of coastline between 2nd and 10th Streets. NE to SE swell at waist-high to well-overhead is the sweet spot, with NW winds cleaning things up nicely. Mid to high tide is generally best since the shorebreak can get surprisingly punchy at low water. Suitable for beginners through experienced surfers, with light to moderate crowds most of the year, though expect more bodies in the lineup when summer weekends overlap with a decent swell. Bottom: Sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: Moderate, better in the fall and winter window. No beach tags required between 8th and 10th Streets, and all-day surfing is permitted there in summer, which is a genuine advantage along this stretch of coast.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are light to moderate most days, heavier during summer and on any solid swell. Local vibe is generally mellow to doable, though bigger days can bring more tension in the lineup. Respect the resident surfers who paddle out here year-round and you will be fine.

Access & Facilities

Park on the street and use the marked dune paths only. It is roughly one block to the beach. The dune field is actively managed and supports wildlife including rabbits, birds, and toads, so stay on the paths. Water is pretty clean overall except after heavy rainfall. Watch for shallow bottom and rip currents, particularly during bigger swells.

Nearby Alternatives

When this stretch is closing out or too crowded, check other Beach Haven spots farther down Long Beach Island for similar sand bottom setups. Slightly different exposures along the island can pick up NE swell more cleanly or shelter from onshore winds depending on conditions.
