Fun beach peaks along the Ocean City, NJ stretch from 26th to 30th Street work a broad swell window and deliver reliable rights and lefts across a sandy bottom. NE swells are the primary driver, with the north end of the beach producing long, powerful lefts when a big NE swell rolls through. NW winds are ideal, cleaning up the faces and holding the peaks together. Mid-to-high tide is generally the call, though the sandbars shift seasonally. The 30th Street Pier provides a reference point for the lineup and shelters the north-side peak, giving it longer rideable faces on summer days. Crowds run moderate and locals are generally approachable, though summer brings beach tags, heavier foot traffic, and tighter parking. Bottom: sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: moderate year-round, peaking in fall and winter. Pack a 4/3 or heavier from October through April, water temps drop into the low 40s Fahrenheit by mid-winter.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Summer is busy with groms, longboarders, and learners sharing the water. Locals are generally mellow, but expect a full lineup on good autumn swells when the crowd knows conditions are firing. Dawn patrol in fall will get you the best waves and the least competition. Beach tags are required in summer months.

Access & Facilities

Street parking is available and free off-season, but a real grind in July and August. Bathrooms and foot-wash stations are on-site, which is a genuine convenience after a session. Rip currents are the main hazard along with a shallow sandbar at low tide. Water quality is clean outside of heavy rain events.

Nearby Alternatives

When this stretch is blown out or maxed, check the jetties at 34th Street or head south toward Strathmere and Corson's Inlet for more protected options. North toward Asbury Park or Manasquan Inlet offers reef and jetty setups that handle bigger, more powerful swells.
