A long stretch of beach sand-bar surf running south from Chapman's Peak Drive toward Kommetjie, Noordhoek delivers hollow, fast peaks that range from playful waist-high fun to legitimate double-overhead barrels when the swell pumps. SE winds go offshore here, and the wave works from under 1ft through 10ft+, with low to mid tide producing the sharpest, most hollow sections. The beach hosts multiple shifting peaks, so crowds spread out on weekdays, though weekends draw a noticeably busier lineup. Bottom: sandbars. Season: peaks in winter (April through September). Consistency: high, works on small and large swells alike. Arrive early on weekends to claim a bank before the Cape Town crew arrives and spread across the beach if it gets busy, there is usually a quieter peak within a short walk.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are quiet with few surfers spread across a long beach. Weekends can get crowded, especially when the banks are firing. Localism is generally low given the beach's length, but the obvious banks will attract competitive lineups. A short walk along the sand usually finds you a less-pressured peak.

Access & Facilities

Easy access from Chapman's Peak Drive. Park along the road or in the beach car park. Facilities are basic. The Cape Peninsula water is cold year-round, running roughly 12-16°C, so a 4/3 wetsuit is standard with booties in winter. Watch for strong rip currents when the swell is solid, and be aware of the remoteness if anything goes wrong.

Nearby Alternatives

Kommetjie at the southern end of the beach offers a more sheltered option when Noordhoek is maxed out. Long Beach at Kommetjie is a consistent beach break alternative, and the nearby points at Scarborough fire on bigger SW swells when conditions align.
