A fun sand-bar peak tucked into the southern end of Camps Bay, Glen Beach punches above its size when a solid SW to NW swell wraps around the Cape Peninsula. Works best from 3-8ft on a low to mid tide with a light SE or E wind offshore. Lefts and rights both run off the bar, with a secondary peak on the rock-sheltered side that stays quieter when the main peak crowds up on weekends. Suits intermediates on most days, though the wave can hold bigger size for experienced surfers pushing the upper range. Bottom: sand-bar. Season: autumn through winter (April to August). Consistency: moderate to good in season. Watch the rising tide, it tends to push the takeoff zone into the rocks on your left, and the graffiti on the wall reads "locals only" but the crew is generally welcoming as long as you arrive with respect and read the pecking order honestly.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are relatively quiet. Weekends fill up fast, especially in winter when the Cape Town surf community concentrates at accessible spots. There's graffiti signaling local priority, so operate accordingly: sit wide, take your turn, don't drop in, and you'll be fine. The vibe is mixed-age, family-present, and generally positive when newcomers show respect.

Access & Facilities

Drive the coastal road south from Sea Point to Camps Bay. Glen Beach is the first pull-over once you hit Camps Bay. Minibus taxis also run this route. Camps Bay village is directly behind the beach for food and water. No dedicated surf rentals on site but Camps Bay has services nearby.

Nearby Alternatives

If Glen is maxed out or blown out, Camps Bay main beach occasionally produces beginner-friendly peaks further north. When a big NW swell is running and Glen closes out, the exposed points further down the Peninsula toward Llandudno can be worth the drive for more organised waves.
