Killers earns its name without exaggeration: a deepwater big-wave right off the northwest corner of Todos Santos Island in Baja California, Mexico, that focuses NW and W swell through an underwater canyon and routinely doubles the size of whatever energy is running. Optimal conditions are glassy light E winds, low tide, and surf running 3-4x overhead minimum, with real action beginning in the 15-20ft face range and scaling well beyond. This is an advanced-only wave with no beginner exceptions, when it fires, a hardcore crew arrives and seniority in the lineup is real, though mutual respect keeps things functional at consequence-level surf. Bottom: rock and sand. Season: November through March. Consistency: swell-dependent, fires on significant NW groundswell. Access is boat-only from Ensenada harbor, so plan your logistics early and know that Killers blows out as easterly winds give way to afternoon onshore flow most days, making a predawn departure from the mainland non-negotiable if you're driving from SoCal.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

When conditions align, a tight crew of experienced big-wave surfers makes the boat trip out. The lineup is heavy but functional: those who have been coming for years get priority, and the skill filter is self-enforcing. Showing up on undersized equipment or without the ability to match the level creates danger for everyone. Respect the hierarchy and be honest about your readiness.

Access & Facilities

Boat access only. Coordinate at the harbor in Ensenada. There are no facilities on the island. Bring everything: water, food, safety gear, and a plan for hold-downs. Hazards include exposed rocks on the inside, strong currents, and the sheer power of the wave itself. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

If Killers is too large or the boat trip isn't viable, the Ensenada region offers more accessible reef breaks along the northern Baja coast that handle smaller NW swell. San Miguel, north of Ensenada, works on similar swell windows and is reachable without a boat.
