A low-key sandbar break south of Ensenada delivers punchy beach peaks in a setting that still feels like old Baja, even if the crowds have caught up in recent years. It picks up SW and NW swells cleanly, works best at 3-6ft, and rewards mid-tide sessions when the bars are organizing. Offshore winds from the east clean up the faces nicely. Most surfers from intermediate upward will find something here, though beginners can paddle out on smaller days when the beach is forgiving. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring for the most consistent swell windows. Consistency: moderate. Bring extra water and food for the drive, keep your kit locked up, and do not skip the spare tire as the dirt road in gets rough and turns genuinely treacherous in wet weather. A 4x4 is the call after rain.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Local reports note the spot has grown noticeably busier, with weekends drawing more visitors from the Ensenada corridor. Historically empty midweek, it now sees real pressure on Saturday and Sunday. Dawn patrol on a weekday is the move. The vibe is generally relaxed by Baja standards, but respect the beach, pack out your trash, and do not leave gear unattended.

Access & Facilities

Head south from Ensenada, exit toward Ejido Erendira from Highway 1, then work north along the coast. The road becomes a dirt track and demands a spare tire at minimum, 4x4 after rain. No formal facilities: bring everything you need including water, food, and firewood. The coastline has rocky sections with mussels at the water's edge, so watch your footing.

Nearby Alternatives

Santa Cruz beach sits just to the north and catches similar swell exposures when Punta Cabras is not cooperating. The broader Ensenada coast has several reef and beach options accessible on the same drive, so a flexible approach to the day pays off.
