El Cardon punches above its weight for a smaller headland on Baja's mid-peninsula coast, consistently producing longer rides than neighboring Punta Maria or Lobos despite its compact size. W to NW winter swells are the engine here, with NE offshores grooming the face cleanly. The break works across all tides and handles a solid 2-8ft range, making it more accessible than many of the exposed outer points nearby. Intermediates will find enough wall to work on their rail game without getting overwhelmed, and crowds are only occasional given the remote access. Bottom: mixed rock at the tip, sand at the tail. Season: fall through winter. Consistency: high. No parking infrastructure exists, so plan to camp on site and bring everything you need, water included.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds show up sometimes, particularly when a clean NW pulse is forecast and travelers are moving down the peninsula. The remote setting keeps casual day-trippers away. Arrive respectful, read the lineup before paddling out, and give priority to anyone who has clearly been camping there for days.

Access & Facilities

There is no formal parking. Access is via rough dirt road typical of mid-Baja, so a high-clearance vehicle is not optional. Camping is the only facility on site. Bring your own water, food, and fuel. The nearest services will be a significant drive, so over-prepare on supplies.

Nearby Alternatives

Punta Lobos is immediately next door and functions like an elongated version of El Cardon with added wind protection. If a major W swell is running, Punta Maria wraps beautifully but requires serious size to light up. Punta Negra, further along, picks up offshore winds early and late and is worth the detour when conditions align.
