Rosarito's beachbreak delivers year-round surf for a wide range of skills, sitting about 30km south of Tijuana on Baja California's north coast. Short-period NW windswells and combo SW-plus-NW setups are the sweet spot, ideally with an E wind holding up the faces. The beach faces directly west, which means anything overhead-plus on a pure swell tends to close out fast, but mid-size days from chest-high to a couple feet overhead keep things fun. Beginners can find mellow reform sections while intermediates work the pier-influenced sandbars. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round. Consistency: high. Avoid surfing here within 72 hours of heavy rain, raw sewage levels spike sharply across multiple drainage points.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is generally spread out and the local vibe is welcoming, but expect some territorial behaviour from established locals and a contingent of crusty American expat regulars at the better peaks. Dawn patrol sidesteps most of the crowd. Watch your back in the water and your car in the lot.

Access & Facilities

Multiple sand parking areas line the beach. Lock your car and hide everything, petty theft is common and corrupt police have been reported in the area. Camping is available nearby. Water quality is a genuine hazard: significant raw sewage input from multiple sources makes post-rain sessions a bad idea.

Nearby Alternatives

When Rosarito is closing out, K38 (El Morro) offers a fast, hollow right just down the coast, and K58/La Fonda delivers the most consistently well-shaped beachbreak barrels in the area. Calafia pointbreak adds a mushy right option on the right swell.
