A sheltered right-hand reef and semi-point tucked along the Baja 1 corridor, Quatro Casas is a SoCal favorite that punches well above its modest reputation. It catches south swell reliably in summer and lights up on clean NW pulses through winter, with the bluffs and kelp bed killing most wind chop. NE offshores are ideal. Best from head-high to double overhead, though a veteran local notes it starts closing out past 11-12ft. The wave is organized and forgiving enough for beginners but has enough shape to keep shortboarders interested. Weekdays are quiet, weekends bring moderate crowds drawn by easy Baja access. Bottom: Rock reef/point. Season: March-October best, rideable year-round. Consistency: High for the region. Bring a variety of boards and arrive early on weekends, the lineup fills quickly and the fun-wave format means everyone wants in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays can be nearly empty. Weekends draw a moderate crowd, mostly SoCal longboarders and campers who know the spot well. Localism is welcoming and the vibe is generally relaxed. Still, respect the lineup order and do not drop in. The easy access from the highway means crowds can build fast in peak season.

Access & Facilities

Off Baja 1, roughly between Colonet and Camalu. Dirt roads lead to the bluffs above the break. A 4WD is not required in dry conditions. Camping on the bluffs is popular and a small fee applies. Theft has been reported at isolated camp spots, so camp near others. Pack all trash out. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

If Quatro Casas is not wrapping properly, the reef peaks near the top of the point can fire on a more direct NNW swell. Rincon de Baja, known locally as Shipwrecks, is a short drive south and handles larger, more powerful swells when Casas closes out.
