A remote beach break on Baja California's Pacific coast, Dunes delivers hollow, powerful peaks over shifting sandbars that favor rights when the banks align. SW and W swells are the engine here, best from waist-high up to a solid 1-2ft overhead, with the wave coming alive on mid to high tide. NE through SE winds keep faces clean. The 25-30 minute walk from Noordhoek Beach car park filters out most casual surfers, keeping the lineup genuinely uncrowded even on weekends. Bottom: sand over reef. Season: year-round, peaking September through November. Consistency: reliable when SW or W groundswell is running. Bring a step-up if the banks are stacking because sets can get surprisingly heavy and hollow, comparable in punch to a quality European beachie on a good day.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The walk-in acts as a natural crowd filter. Weekday or weekend, you're likely sharing the water with a handful of surfers at most. Locals are welcoming and the vibe is relaxed. Respect the effort everyone made to get there and you'll be fine.

Access & Facilities

Drive to Noordhoek Beach car park and walk 25-30 minutes south along the beach. No facilities on site, so carry water and food. Rips are the main hazard, especially when the swell is pumping. Scan the beach before paddling out and use the channel if one is running. Water is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

If Dunes isn't cooperating, the broader Baja Pacific coast has numerous beach and point setups that respond to similar SW and W swells. Scout the shoreline during your walk in for secondary peaks that may be firing when the main sandbars are off.
